What is a Level Gauge?

A level gauge is a key device used at fuel stations for real-time monitoring of fuel level, temperature, and water level inside storage tanks, an essential component of safe station operation and digital management. Through continuous data acquisition by high-precision magnetostrictive sensors, the level gauge can automatically generate inventory reports, alert on abnormal fuel fluctuations, and prevent leaks and spills.

Zhiming HC-LM Series Smart Level Gauge adopts a 10.1-inch Android touchscreen + magnetostrictive hard-rod probe dual-module architecture, supports RS232/RS485 industrial bus, can connect to audible/visual alarms, printers, and overfill prevention valves, paired with a mobile APP for remote viewing — the standard equipment for smart fuel stations.

Magnetostrictive Linear Displacement Measurement

The magnetostrictive liquid level transmitter mainly consists of three parts: measuring rod, electronic compartment, and magnetic ring (float). The measuring rod contains a magnetostrictive wire (waveguide).

During operation, the electronic compartment's circuit generates a starting pulse that travels along the waveguide, simultaneously creating a rotating magnetic field that progresses along the waveguide. When this magnetic field meets the permanent magnetic field in the float, the magnetostrictive effect is triggered, causing the waveguide to twist and generate a return pulse. The energy pickup mechanism senses this and converts it into a current pulse. By calculating the time difference between the two pulses, the fuel level position is precisely measured.
